Club Review : The Reel One, Indianapolis Indiana

The Real One in Indianapolis is a on premise swingers club on the edge of downtown Indianapolis IN. Having been a member for several years but going only a hand full of times they have changed to non smoking in all but the dance floor. This seemed to be a good time to give it a shot again and write a review of how things are after the change.

On to the review....



Facilities:

Reel One has a parking behind the building, and there is a security guard on duty to watch over your cars. There is also a designated motorcycle parking area. There are only a few steps separating the car parking from the motorcycle parking and the entry to the facility. We did not notice a ramp to make it handicap accessible.

When you enter the Reel One there is a small seating area and window to pay the entry fee as well as a few lock boxes for your cell phone.  Like most lifestyle clubs, no phones are allowed inside the Reel Once. Once you are past the front desk you enter a hallway where to the left is a shower as well as a small locker room with a bathroom. Next to the small locker room is a playroom set up to a type of doctor or dentist office. To the right leads you to a lounge with two balconies over looking it that are set up for public play.

Once you pass through the lounge, you come to the bar area. This area has some table set up holding some finger food which usually is available and a place to eat. The bar also has stools to sit at. The bar does not serve alcohol as, like most swingers clubs, The Reel One is BYOB. The bar serves as a center of command for the club. At the bar, there are several TV's displaying surveillance video of the car park and the outside of the building as well as the kitchen where the drinks are kept. The security guard for inside of the Reel One is also stationed here monitoring the TV's. At the bar you can also get locks for your locker, reserve a room for the night, pick out toys for the Sybian and get keys for the play rooms which can be used for an hour at a time on Saturday night. There is also another bathroom located in this area as well as stairs leading downstairs. To the right of the bar is the kitchen. They have ice that you can use as well as a refrigerator to stow away your drinks as well as a pop machine serving Coke products.

 Off the kitchen and off of the bar area is the dance floor and the only location other than outside that smoking is now permitted. The dance floor is small but there are plenty of tables, and there is a DJ playing music for everyone  to dance to. There is a strippers pole located in the corner, but it is very close to the wall, and as it is built on a tall stand, the pole itself is short. It is very difficult to use the pole without fear of knocking into the wall. The lighting in the room is kept dim and they do have laser lighting.

Downstairs has a large locker room with several showers, an area that has massage tables as well as a makeup counter. It is one of the more well lit rooms in the establishment. Down the hallway from the locker room is the pool room. There is one pool table and two dartboard games. Seating is around the pool table with some tables for drinks. They do have a radio in the room but it didn't get the best reception. Throughout the facility there are several small TV's that are playing porn that is usually older. The TV's also don't have the best signal. Another feature of downstairs is a large movie room with a bed and several couches to have a large play group or show in. This room is kept rather dark except for the light coming from the TV. Now that there is no smoking down there the area smells a bit musty and felt slightly damp.

There are two flights of stairs leading to the second floor from the dance floor. Upstairs is a maze of hallways and sitting rooms with playroom filtered in throughout. The playrooms can either have the door closed, open with a chain or open without a chain. Rules are posted by the doors. There is a playroom with mirrors on the ceiling and walls, another with a swing, a few with multiple beds and some with single beds. There are around 12 rooms total. One of the rooms without a bed in it contains two Sybians for guests to enjoy. There is also a homemade sex swing in one of the lounge areas for people to watch the show. The upstairs is kept in the same dim lighting that flows throughout. There are small closets for sheets and a place to put used sheets. There are also several bathrooms.

Overall the building has an aged feeling about it. The decor has not changed much since first becoming a member 6 years ago and it has probably been that way even longer. They do their best to keep it clean but time has worn things down.

Location :

The Reel One is located on edge of downtown Indianapolis towards the west side. It is about 5 minutes from the highway if you are a tourist. It is in a slightly rough neighborhood but security keeps things safe.

Clientele :

The Reel One has a blue collar feel to it. The people were friendly and not staying in clicks. They went out of their way to introduce themselves and ask how long we had been members. We did manage to strike up conversation with a few different couples. Almost exclusively people are 40 or older. This was a slower night so on busier nights you do occasionally find people who are younger than 40. On the night we were there, there were a few people who were 65+. Overall all racially it was mostly Caucasian with a few other minorities represented sparsely. Single males tend to be either African American or Hispanic and on this night there were more Hispanic single males than before. Most of the people that go there are swingers and most of the people are not there to just socialize. The Reel One is open to anyone interested in showing up and they don't discriminate.

Prices :

The Reel One is open Friday and Saturday nights. Friday night is $20 a couple and $20 for single men. Single ladies are free. Saturday night is $30 couple and for single men and single women are $5.A lifetime membership is 15$. One of the things the Reel One does that we have not seen before is that they require you to have a sponsor before you can even enter the club. You have to know somebody who is a member, some people post on Craigslist or other a swinging lifestyle website to find a sponsor. The official way is to go to their Yahoo group and become a member to request sponsorship. It is not hard to get sponsored but can be a pain to go through the steps especially if you just want to find a place where you can go pay the entry price and the membership right then. If you do get a sponsor we would recommend that you pay the membership price then so you don't have to go through the sponsorship again.

Overall Impression :

I was hoping that the change to the smoking policies would encourage a new set of clientele to the  Reel One. On this particular night that was not the case. With that said it was a slow night. The people were friendly but other than people hanging out and chatting there was very little in the way of play going on. I would love for the place to get new carpet and flooring throughout. Generally an entire face lift. It was very warm upstairs and while they had fans they were very large industrial fans that overpowered any talking. We would really like to love the Reel One and it has the potential but it is a catch 22 of not enough of a client base to be able to do the updates needed to maintain a large client base.
